Bottega Veneta Fall 2023 Ready-to-Wear

Bottega Veneta’s fall 2023 ready-to-wear collection was showcased at the infamous Red Brick Art Museum in Beijing as a repeat show, including several new pieces. A repeat show is the display of a collection with new additions or a new location– in this case, new pieces were worn on the runway. The location was absolutely fitting for the brand because of its endless structure of bricks, super similar to Bottega’s signature weaving style. The show was live streamed on Weibo and accumulated over 34 million views– not surprising since this was the brand’s first time hosting an event in China.

Creative director Matthiew Blazy, who joined in 2021, said he picked the museum because of how logical it is– combining craft, modernism and the past. In an interview with WWD, Blazy said, “China has changed a lot, but the energy’s great, which was so wonderful to see.” He added that he wanted to host it in Beijing because he visited the Chinese capital 18 years ago, when he was a teenager.

Red, black and neutrals were the main colors for the collection. The upcoming season embraces the moto look, and Bottega flawlessly exemplified it. The leather pieces featured broad shoulders and generous pockets, capturing the essence of the iconic and daring biker style. The iconic intrecciato (braided in Italian) weave was the main texture of most pieces, but there were also a lot of silk pieces. The standout was the white longline dress worn by Paola Manes, resembling a graceful nightgown beautifully draping over her silhouette. Manes paired it with a woven bag and boots that matched it perfectly, reminding me of the perfect and effortless on-the-go look.

Tess Breeden wore the most gorgeous lilac matching skirt set that also reminds me of sleepwear that can easily be worn out. This particular look screams femininity and delicacy with the lace detailed framing on both pieces. Although people may think it leans more on the sleepwear side, pairing it with a pair of leather boots, jewelry, or belt can easily elevate the outfit and turn it into a night out look.

The range throughout the show was incredible, there were so many textures and aesthetics presented that the looks didn’t look redundant. Blazy definitely knocked it out of the park with this one, playing with a variety of patterns beside the iconic weave the brand is famous for. He has shown his versatility in numerous of his collections since joining Bottega in 2021, but this specific collection hit the mark.
